Labour wants an ambitious plan for the next generation.

Dr Matt Lamb, Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Wyre Forest, has this week backed the launch of #Shapeyourfuture – Labour’s plan for the next generation.

#Shapeyourfuture will put the ideas and aspirations of young people at the heart of Labour’s plans for the general election and for government.

he Tories and Lib Dems have betrayed young people by trebling tuition fees, scrapping the EMA and leaving 750,000 young people unemployed.

And new figures published this week show almost one million voters have disappeared from the Electoral Register in the last year, particularly in towns and cities with large numbers of students and young people.

Labour’s consultation will run from 16th January to 16th February, including lots of activity on National Voter Registration Day on February 5th. Dr Matt Lamb is calling on as many local young people as possible to participate in the consultation by visiting www.labour.org.uk/shapeyourfuture and by tweeting their ideas on the hashtag #ShapeYourFuture.

Dr Matt Lamb, Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Wyre Forest says:

“In the last year almost one million people have fallen off the Electoral Register, including 646 in Wyre Forest. This is a direct consequence of the Government’s decision to ignore warnings that rushing through new individual registration reforms would damage democracy.

“This is nothing less than a scandal. The Government is sitting by and watching hundreds of young people in Wyre Forest lose their democratic rights.

“But young people must be heard, loud and clear, in the general election. That’s why I’m determined to do all I can to get local young people back on the electoral register, and casting their vote in May.

“This General Election is an opportunity for young people to shape their future with better policies on housing, jobs and pay. So make you sure you have a voice -; and then make sure you get heard -; because the stakes for your generation are greater than ever.”
