Social Care – The Cinderella and forgotten service which has seen £4.6billion of cuts under the Tories.

This represents a 17% cut locally meaning many go without proper care in a care industry famed for privatisation, inadequate 15 minute visits, abuse of patients, and treatment of staff that is exploitative.

The Tory Manifesto plans basically amount to a “dementia tax” on those suffering from this debilitating illness. If you suffer from cancer, the NHS pays for your treatment; but if you suffer from dementia which 10% of the population may do, and unless you have assets under £100,000 then when you die then the Tories will take your home. This amounts to a “dementia tax” and is grossly unfair. Labour will fund social Care properly with an Ethical Care Charter funded by an additional £8billion over the course of the next Parliament.

Our aim is to end this illness lottery on treatment with free end of life care and investigating a cross-party consensus on a social care levy that is fair and not based on ability to pay.
