You can’t trust the Tories with the NHS. Under David Cameron, more and more services are being handed over to the private sector, and hospitals are increasing their private patient income -; while NHS patients face longer waits.
 

David Cameron’s disastrous NHS reorganisation put profits before patient care. His Health and Social Care Act put market values at the heart of the NHS, effectively forcing commissioners to put all contracts out to tender. It also abolished the Private Patient Income cap, allowing hospitals to raise up to half of their income from private patients.
 
Labour has published evidence that these changes are putting NHS founding principles at risk. New evidence of a growing NHS sell off: since 2010, 40 per cent of all contracts have gone to private providers -; the same as the proportion going to the NHS. Meanwhile more and more patients are facing long waits to be seen.
 
The NHS as we know it cannot survive another five years of the Tories. A Tory second term means the stealth privatisation of the NHS.
 
Labour will legislate to put NHS patients first. We will repeal the Tories’ market framework for the NHS to halt the drive towards privatisation, and we will bring in tough controls on private patient income to make sure NHS patients aren’t pushed to the back of the queue.

New figures unearthed from an official government document have also revealed details of Tory plans to reduce the number of NHS nurses immediately after the General Election.
 
Health Education England’s (HEE) Workforce Plan for England 2015/16 reveals trusts are forecasting that they will be employing nearly 2,000 fewer nurses over the next four years – for reasons “mainly driven by affordability”.
 
Hospitals are already at their limits and staff are working wonders, but these planned cuts will push them over the edge.
 
These plans show the NHS simply cannot take five more years of David Cameron. He is saying one thing in public but behind the scenes is drawing up plans to cut nurses. The Tories haven’t got a penny of extra funding for the NHS. It is clear Tory NHS promises have an expiry date of May 8th stamped on them.
 
Labour has set out a better plan to invest £2.5 billion extra each year – on top of Tory spending plans – paid for by a mansion tax on homes worth over £2 million, to fund 20,000 more nurses and 8,000 more GPs.
