As Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier tweeted the much publicised meeting with the Schools Minister today to talk about the impact of funding shortages on our local schools, let’s remember that ALL Worcestershire Tory MPs since 2010, including him, have voted for austerity.
Austerity cuts include school funding cuts. Our local schools are at “tipping “point” according to local Headteachers (Desperate Wyre Forest secondary schools call for funding -The Shuttle).
What’s staggering is just the sheer level of cuts that schools have had and which damage our children’s education and their future prospects. Across the County, and since only 2015, our County schools have suffered a whopping £41.2million cut.
So, if you as a constituent, feel outraged about our MP making political capital with a photo opportunity with the Minister to gaslight his role in forcing these cuts on our schools, you’ve every right to feel that outrage. No doubt as the next election looms he’ll want this to be kept a secret, or there’ll be a faux announcement about more money being made available.
Only Labour has a plan to invest in a National Education Service to put right the sorry mess the Tories have created in our schools.
