Ever wondered what Mark Garnier, your Tory MP, does with all his time you pay for?

Well, he certainly doesn’t spend it working hard for his constituents in-between jetting off on overseas trips to visit his despotic mates in Saudi Arabia.

All is now revealed. He’s working for a firm that specialises in tax avoidance because he’s clearly got time on his hands and thinks tax avoidance is a worthy cause to devote that time to.

It’s almost like he doesn’t care Wyre Forest has the 5th highest homelessness figures in Midlands, that 3,500 families are on the housing list, that we’ve seen a 27% Foodbank use rise this year, or that £19k is the median wage, that thousands are in insecure work, that we have crime related drugs issues, poor mental health services, and a failing NHS.

We think residents have a right to know he’s moonlighting for a firm specialising in tax avoidance. We don’t however know whether he also gets a free holiday in the Caymans thrown in. So, on top of his not insignificant MP salary of £79,000 per year he’s coining in another £12,000 per year in a part time job. Nice work if you can get it, we’re pretty sure that his extra £12,000 is far more than many Wyre Forest workers earn in their main job.

Sometime soon in a general election Wyre Forest will get the chance to let Mark know what you think about what he thinks about Wyre Forest. Let’s hope we end up with a Labour MP who’ll work for the many not the few.
