Candidate for Cookley, Wolverley & Wribbenhall
I am David Jones, 55, married with two children. I have enjoyed living in Cookley for the last 25 years. Lucky as we are to live here, there are serious challenges currently facing our community, the least of which is the proposed quarry, which will devastate the area for a minimum of 10 years, but probably many more. I organised the first protest against this and I fully support the Stop the Quarry campaign’s endeavour to prevent this environmental blot from happening.
I also oppose building on green belt land, wherever that may be in our County. I consider it to be unnecessary squandering of our children’s inheritance, when so much brownfield and industrial land lies dormant. Development of brownfield sites would breathe much needed life back into the struggling local communities and shops. Now, as never before, we need our green spaces. As difficult as this pandemic is, it’s hugely encouraging to see people enjoying the outdoors.
With the 600 houses currently under construction at the former Lea Castle Hospital, I would like to see some serious thought given to road safety, particularly speed limits on the A449, and all surrounding rural roads. Further, this issue will need far greater scrutiny should plans for the further 1500 green belt houses be approved.
This may all sound quite challenging, however, I remain convinced that, if we all continue to work together, a positive outcome will follow. Given your vote, I will do my very best to ensure our voices are listened to. Over the years I have given my best to every job I have undertaken, this will be no different.
