Candidate for Aggborough and Spennells
I am Chris Bird. I have been a Labour member for 20 years and supported it before that. I really cannot see why there is support for policies put forward by the Conservative Government, given the appalling record of U-turns on many issues. There doesn’t seem to be an overall policy or mission statement.
I am not a native of this area, but settled here almost 6 years ago. I find it an extremely interesting place to be involved with, not too large to be really impersonal. I spend quite a bit of time following social media to see what is actually going on, and feel it is easy to be disconnected with the general mood of the people. I also follow Momentum and Owen Jones to get a different aspect than often portrayed by the main media. This helps to get a more balanced view.
My special interest is transport, with rail as the number one. I worked for British Rail from 1960 until early retirement in 1996. This started in the Cambridge area where I was born and schooled, with subsequent promotions taking me to London, York, Birmingham (where I met my partner), and back to London. I moved to Kinver in 1999 and Kidderminster in 2015.
As a hobby I was a stage lighting designer for the Teddington Theatre club, and ran the tech committee for five years, where I helped the move into a new, purpose built theatre.
