Candidate for Bewdley

My name is Rod Stanczyszyn. I was born in Kidderminster and educated at King Charles I School. Following careers as a geologist and a science teacher, I retired in 2013 and settled in Bewdley.

As a Bewdley Town Councillor and Chair of ‘Bewdley says NO to Gladman’, I have gained valuable insight of local planning issues especially public transport, air quality and jobs. I serve on Bewdley Town Council Finance and Planning Committees and Chair the Neighbourhood Plan group.

I believe that quality public services and sustainable local jobs are essential to a strong community, a strong local economy and a cleaner environment.

Political Experience:
Bewdley Town Councillor (2018 - present)
Chair of Planning Committee (2019 - 2020)
Vice-Chair Planning Committee (2020 - 2021)
Chair of Finance Committee (2020 - 2021)
Chair of Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group (2019 - present)

Years in Labour Party: 7 years

Occupation: Retired, formerly Geological Surveyor and Science Teacher

For: A real living wage – a progressive increase in the next Labour government to £15/hour, restrictions on zero hours contracts, council funded social housing and caps put on rent increases in the private sector, and an education funding formula which gives equal allocations to all public sectors.

Against: Lack of public scrutiny of government Covid-19 contracts, the freezing of the income tax personal allowance for anything longer than 1 year, and a reduction in the Overseas Aid budget.

Greatest Achievement: The achievement of which I’m most proud is the ‘Bewdley Says NO to Gladman’ campaign. I founded this, with a number of others, in August 2016 to object to an application to build market housing in an inappropriate location in Bewdley. After a nerve-wracking appeal process and the threat of the decision going to the High Court, the decision went our way and the application was dismissed in June 2018.
