Rod Stanczyszyn - Wyre Forest Labour Candidate for Bewdley
We asked Rod Stanczyszyn a few questions (via Zoom) about him and his campaign. Rod is the Wyre Forest Labour Candidate for Bewdley for Worcestershire County Council.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and why you want to join Worcestershire County Council?

My name is Rod Stanczyszyn. I was born in Kidderminster, moved away for work, but moved back to Bewdley to become a resident since 2013. I want to join Worcestershire County Council because as an elected Town Council member, I’ve realised over the last few years that many of the issues that are important in Bewdley, such as highways, speeding, road safety, social care and education are in the remit of Worcestershire County Council, and being on that council gives me a much better say.

Why should I vote for you and the Labour Party?

I believe in being honest and fair. I will always tell people the truth, and not just what I think they might want to hear. My values are Labour values; the principle that the state is essential for the provision of quality public services, whereas otherwise companies will always try to get more profit, which is not compatible with community and personal well-being.

What have you achieved for your local community?

Bewdley is such a vibrant and close community – I would like to keep it that way. A few years after I moved here, there was a planning promoter company came along and threatened to build 200 houses on the side of the valley – in a totally inappropriate location. It was taken to a planning appeal that went in our favour, but the company still took it to, or threatened to take it rather to a High Court case. That was thrown out and we’ve managed to preserve it still in its original beauty.

What issue in Bewdley do you want to see most resolved?

The issue that I want to see most resolved in Bewdley is that of air pollution in the town centre. There is an area known as Welsh Gate where this is particularly bad. It’s been known for 17 years – the values have always exceeded the limits for air pollution, and very little has been done to try and alleviate the situation, and it’s only when Bewdley has a strong voice on Worcestershire County Council that this will be properly tackled.

If you would like to get in touch with Rod about any issues in Bewdley, he can be reached via email. Vote Wyre Forest Labour on May 6th.
