Mary McDonnell: Franche and Habberley North
"It is ONLY the LABOUR PARTY that can deliver change by investing in public services and supporting local communities. Let’s do this together!"
I am very pleased to have been selected as a Labour Candidate for Franche and Habberley North, in the forthcoming Wyre Forest District Council elections. It will be a pleasure to work with other hard-working Labour councillors.
I believe I am the right person for this job and list the reasons below.
I have lived in Habberley Lane, Franche for over 20 years, with my late husband, and I know the area really well and understand its needs.
My 2 daughters attended schools in Franche and I am a firm believer in state education and the NHS.
I also worked for the District Council for over 5 years as its litigation and licensing solicitor and know how the council operates.
I support more affordable housing and want to achieve a Progressive Labour Council.
I am also aware, from personal experience, of the extreme difficulties the council has had in balancing its budget since the return of the first Conservative-led Government in 2010, its austerity programme and the cut in the grants to local government year on year.
I retired at the end of last year and I now have the time and energy to devote to local issues, and hopefully put something back into the community.
I am horrified at the prospect of development taking place opposite Hillside Drive towards Low Habberley because the view across those fields is truly beautiful and should be preserved for future generations. The district has plenty of brownfield sites (including former retail sites!) that could be used for housing instead.
The developers just want to take the easy option of developing this Greenfield site instead of building homes where they are really needed in the centres of Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley,
If you elect me, I will strongly oppose this proposed development and work to the best of my ability on behalf of all the residents in the ward.
As always, we will aim to look after the interests of the Many not the Few. It is ONLY the LABOUR PARTY that can deliver change by investing in public services and supporting local communities. Let’s do this together!
