We asked Nigel Knowles a few questions (via Zoom) about why he wants to join Worcestershire County Council and Kidderminster Town Council. Nigel is the Wyre Forest Labour Candidate for St Barnabas, Kidderminster for Worcestershire County Council and Franche & Habberley North for Kidderminster Town Council.

Can you tell us a little about yourself, and why you want to join Worcestershire County Council and Kidderminster Town Council?

My name is Nigel Knowles and I would like to be a member of Worcestershire County Council. It’s a great strategic body that has a lot of influence within the county, and also Kidderminster Town Council is important because it’s nearer to the people.

Why should I vote for you and the Labour Party?

I would like you to vote for me as a Labour candidate, because the Labour Party is a progressive organisation that will defend people’s rights, will defend services, and actually introduce new services at County Council. So if you vote for me as a Labour candidate, I will be one of the Labour team that will defend social services at County Hall.

When did you get involved in politics?

My involvement with the Labour Party really grew, from being a very active member of the Carpet Weavers Union in Kidderminster, as a Carper Weaver. So I got more and more involved in union affairs, and that led on to me joining the Labour Party and becoming involved in Labour Party politics, as well as Trade Union politics in Kidderminster.

What concerns do you have locally?

I’m very concerned that the Government is cutting back facilities for local Government, particularly the County Council in Worcestershire, and I am concerned that we will be left with little or no real services to have an input into, and I would like to stop the rot, and be part of a Labour team that would actually fight very hard for services in Worcestershire, and particularly, Kidderminster.

If you would like to get in touch with Nigel, he can be reached via email, or his Facebook page. Vote Wyre Forest Labour on May 6th.
